Making complexity workable

I turn complexity into clear direction for digital products. I work at the intersection of experience strategy, product management and organisational change — connecting people, business and technology to make complex digital products easier to understand, shape and improve.

Currently, I work as Digital Experience Manager at Die Haftpflichtkasse, focusing on digital experiences, product quality, accessibility and the systems behind them. I’m an agency kid at heart, having spent much of my career in agencies, alongside work in consultancies, start-ups and product organisations across a wide range of industries.

What I do across the product lifecycle

I work across the product lifecycle, from shaping direction and asking the right questions to turning decisions into workable products.

Product & Design Strategy

I help create direction before teams commit to solutions.

Roles: Experience Strategist, Facilitator, Change Manager

Methods: Business Model Canvas, Value Proposition Canvas, customer segmentation, Liberating Structures, strategy and alignment workshops

Product Discovery

I explore problems, contexts and user needs before turning them into product decisions.

Roles: User Researcher, Experience Strategist, Concept Designer

Methods: ethnographic research, customer journey mapping, user story mapping, business process modelling, card sorting, wireframing

Product Delivery

I help translate product intent into priorities, decisions and workable delivery structures.

Roles: Product Manager, Product Owner, Agile Coach

Methods: backlog management, stakeholder management, team retrospectives, facilitation

Looking beyond the interface

A digital product is rarely just an interface. I look at the relationships between people, processes, technology, organisation and business goals.

I like asking the curly questions, especially when an answer looks obvious. My job is often less about adding another idea and more about creating enough structure to make complexity understandable and decisions possible.

Usability and accessibility are part of that. Digital products should work for people rather than making people work for them.

AI is now a central part of how I think and work, expanding what I can explore, create and evaluate without outsourcing judgement.

Organisations I’ve worked with

Big brands, smaller organisations and quite a few different industries along the way.

  • Mercedes-Benz Vans
  • KIA Europe
  • ALDI Nord
  • AOK Bundesverband

About me

Hey, I’m Martin. I wrangle complexity for a living.

I studied Media Informatics at Cologne University of Applied Sciences. The mix of technology, design and human behaviour still shapes how I think about digital products.

I’ve been part of communities around UXcamp Europe, UXCGN and UX Camp West — bring the right people together, share what you know and ask good questions.

I live in Berlin 🐻, with the Rhineland in my heart, especially Cologne 🐐. Outside work, it’s mostly road bikes, gravel bikes and coffee.

Zodiac: Coffee ☕. Ascendant: Apple Pie 🥧.
